Our Company

Since 1989 Sachi has provided low-maintenance, drought-tolerant landscape design and maintenance services for homes and businesses in Northern California. To date, we have completed more than 400 projects for private homes, apartment complexes, properties and public spaces.

Our projects reflect the unique climate of the San Francisco Bay Area, and we are committed to creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but are ecologically sustainable. We drought-tolerant plants from Australia, Asia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as native California species. We specialize in xeriscape design using rare and unusual plants, edible herbs and aromatics in our unique designs. Sachi also offers maintenance for interior and exterior garden environments using organic and non-toxic methods of pest and disease controls.

Our Philosophy
The most important role we play is to help people harmonize the relationships they have with their environments. Sachi uses the principles of Feng Shui and traditional Asian aesthetics to create a balance of elements within outdoor spaces. We believe that less is more, and that thoughtful selection of plants and other design elements allows us to create vibrant landscapes that are intriguing to the eye and stimulating to the senses.

Our Community
For more than twenty years we have worked with local residents and city officials to restore older gardens in depressed or blighted areas. Sachi has reclaimed several city blocks in Oakland and Berkeley and transformed them into places of growth and beauty. We have also teamed up with local children on gardening projects, thus planting the seeds of conservation and land stewardship for the next generation.

Our Founder
The company was founded by Shale Well, a noted Bay Area horticulturalist specializing in building subtropical gardens, herb gardens, stone patios, walkways, water features, and minimalist, small scale gardens. Using her extensive knowledge of the latest trends in art, architecture and landscape design, Shale has created visually spectacular spaces that exist in harmony with their surroundings.
